Welcome to the Legacy of Black Wall Street: Tulsa’s Bold Triumph and Resilient Spirit

Nestled in the heart of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Black Wall Street was once a beacon of African American prosperity, innovation, and culture. In the early 20th century, Greenwood Avenue—the heartbeat of this thriving district—boasted some of the most successful Black-owned businesses in the United States. From banks to theaters, from doctors’ offices to luxury hotels, Black Wall Street was a symbol of economic independence and the boundless potential of a community united in resilience.

But on May 31, 1921, that brilliance was violently shattered. The Tulsa Race Massacre forever changed the landscape of this once-thriving district, leaving behind a painful scar in American history. Yet, despite the devastation, the spirit of Black Wall Street refuses to be extinguished. The story of Greenwood is one of both tragedy and triumph—of a community’s enduring will to rise again, to reclaim its history, and to continue its fight for justice and recognition.

I am proud to be the voice of Black Wall Street, carrying forward the legacy of a community that refused to be broken. As a 4th generation descendant of those who lived, worked, and thrived here, I share in the honor of preserving and telling these stories. This website is not just about the past. It’s about honoring the strength, resilience, and brilliance of those who came before us—and ensuring that their legacy continues to inspire and empower future generations.

Join me as we explore the untold stories, celebrate the triumphs, and reflect on the enduring legacy of Black Wall Street—a legacy that lives on today, inspiring generations to come.
